Revealed at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show, the upcoming 2014 Mazda6 features an all-new design, lightweight body, and carefully tuned engines that yield nearly 40 combined mpg. If you’re curious about what Mazda’s new technologies have to offer, learn more about the sleek 2014 Mazda6 sedan.
Sprightly Engine Choices
Two engines will be available in the upcoming 2014 Mazda6 sedan. One is a diesel-powered 2.2-liter that should yield about 39 mpg in combined driving and offer between 148 and 173 horsepower. For a gasoline-powered engine, Mazda is offering a 189-horsepower 2.5-liter that should earn roughly 37 mpg combined. Both engines come with an automatic start-stop system that turns off the engine when you come to a complete stop and turns it back on automatically when you take your foot off of the brake.
Owing to a longer wheelbase and better design, there is more passenger and cargo space in the 2014 Mazda6 than in its predecessor. The instrument cluster features a new design, a 3.5-inch LCD screen, and a cleaned up center stack.
The Mazda6 is hypnotically attractive, featuring Mazda’s new grille design, pointy headlights and taillights with LED enhancements up front, a wider stance, and an overall shape that allows the Mazda6 to achieve a remarkably low 0.26 Cd aerodynamic drag coefficient. The Mazda6’s new lightweight frame is able to shave off a total of 300 pounds from the car’s total weight, which greatly helps fuel economy and handling.
New Mazda safety technology that can be equipped on the 2014 Mazda6 includes Automatic High-Beams, Adaptive Headlights, Lane Departure Warning, and Blind-Spot Warning. There is also the Smart City Brake Support system, which applies the brakes automatically when the car is traveling less than 19 mph and an imminent collision is detected.
